Interview Alcudiamar

We regularly visit customers to hear their feedback on our products and learn more about their sustainability strategy and measures. In the latest edition of our #SustainabilityTalk, find out how Alcudiamar Marina and Botel Alcudiamar in Mallorca are taking action to improve sustainability while maintaining quality of service for guests.

Ulrike Rabmer-Koller and Rabmer Spain Representative Paula Rodríguez Castells met with the Deputy Manager of Alcudiamar Port & Botel, Mar Vera Vives, who is also responsible for expansion and sustainable development. We wanted to know from her why sustainability is so important to Alcudiamar and how Ecowaterjet by rabmer fits into the company's sustainability strategy.

Thank you for your time. Please briefly describe Alcudiamar.

Alcudiamar was founded in 1988 with the idea of offering quality and respectful tourism. Alcudiamar is the company that manages the Alcudia marina and the associated accommodation, the Botel Alcudiamar.

Why is sustainability important to you and what measures have you already implemented?

Our main values focus on sustainability, on developing a clean and environmentally friendly activity, on introducing modern and digital tools in our management and, finally, on showing that a marina is more than just a place where boats are moored and repaired. The measures we have implemented include reducing water and electricity consumption, recirculating and recycling water, improving water quality, using clean energy and raising awareness. Proof of Alcudiamar's commitment are the various certifications that we meet and renew every year, such as EMAS or ISO 14001 and many others at international and national level.

What are you particularly proud of? What is a challenge for you?

In 2022, the company reaches the culmination of a reform and modernization process that has made us one of the leading marinas in the Balearic Islands and nationally in terms of sustainability, digitalization and efficient management. We are very proud of very innovative measures that are unique in the Balearic Islands, such as our Flovac vacuum bilge water and faeces collection system: the first in the Balearic Islands and the second in Spain. This system allows waste to be vacuumed directly from the moored ship, avoiding contamination and waste. It is a challenge for us to communicate all these measures to society, which is why PR and awareness-raising measures are so important for us.

How important is saving hot water for Alcudiamar?

Controlling water and energy consumption is of central importance for an accommodation business. This is a very important issue for Alcudiamar, as hot water consumption must be reduced to avoid excessive waste, which has a negative impact on costs. Furthermore, one of the main points of our sustainability strategy is water efficiency management, so both facts go hand in hand.

Why did you choose the ecowaterjet by rabmer system? What advantages do you see compared to other products?

Ecowaterjet by rabmer is an easy-to-use tool that we were able to implement in a short space of time. The company's support in terms of scheduling, delivery and support was also important to us. Right from the start, we found many synergies with Rabmer, such as our concern for sustainable water consumption, care for the environment and compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals.

What experiences have you had since installing ecowaterjet by rabmer?

We have noticed a significant reduction in consumption in a short time since installation. Another important point is that customers have not noticed any difference in water flow or pressure after the system was installed, so the quality of service is not affected in any way.

Would you recommend ecowaterjet by rabmer?

Yes, we recommend Ecowaterjet by Rabmer to all companies where the reduction of water consumption plays an important role and who need to reduce their costs, because the installation is easy, the results are fast and there is no significant difference in water flow or pressure in the showers.
